Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Abu Dhabi have acquired the rights to the popular found-footage horror anthology series "V/H/S" from Studio71. This marks a significant step in their six-year partnership, as they plan to jointly produce upcoming titles within the franchise. The series, which debuted at Sundance in 2012, has become a launch pad for emerging genre talents and has seen various installments over the years, each with its unique twist on the found-footage format. The franchise has also expanded into feature-length movies, such as "SiREN" and "Kids vs. Aliens".
The deal is an exciting opportunity for both parties, as Spooky Pictures, led by Steven Schneider and Roy Lee, is known for its support of up-and-coming filmmakers. Image Nation CEO Ben Ross expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition, highlighting the franchise's potential to provide a platform for emerging talent, including Arab filmmakers. The "V/H/S" franchise has already proven its popularity and quality control, making it an attractive prospect for the partnership.
Schneider emphasized the challenge and success of horror anthologies, particularly the "V/H/S" brand, which has not only persevered but thrived. He believes this acquisition is a great chance to further nurture and support emerging filmmakers. Lee added that the shorts created for the franchise can serve as proof-of-concept, potentially turning them into feature films. The partnership has already produced successful horror titles, such as "Late Night With the Devil" and "The Vile", and their upcoming slate includes supernatural horror, thrillers, and more, showcasing their commitment to diverse and high-quality content.
